Location of proposed hotels

Reaching Athens centre from the Athens International Airport (Eletherios Venizelos)

The new Athens International Airport (http://www.aia.gr) is located 27 km southeast of Athens and can be accessed via a six-lane motorway and public transport - express airport bus on a 24 h basis.

You can reach Athens Centre either by a taxi or by bus.

A taxi journey from the Airport to Syntagma Sq. will usually cost from €15 to €30 and last 30-60minutes depending on the traffic you will encounter. The exact due fare is displayed on the meter and an extra amount of €1-3 will be added as charge for luggage (€0.30/piece), airport access and tolls (paid by the customer).

Be aware that fares greater than €30, especially if traffic is fluent, are suspicious as there have been cases of fraudulence. The taxi driver is obliged to give you a receipt upon request. If traveling any time from 5 in the morning to midnight make sure the the meter reads '1' (i.e. simple rate). Only from midnight to 5 am should the meter read '2' (double rate). There is a price list a the front seat of the taxi.

Two Express Bus routes connect the airport to Athens (Athens Transport Organization http://www.oasa.gr)

E95: Athens Airport – Syntagma Sq.

E94: Athens Airport – Ethniki Amina Metro station

The ticket price for the airport express lines is €2,90. It permits only one trip to or from the airport and unlimited travel by all other public transport modes (buses, trolley buses, metro) for 24 hours from the time of its validation during first trip (validate only once).

The airport ticket can be purchased from the drivers of the airport buses, at all metro stations and at the blue or yellow ticket outlets. It can be used, irrespective of travelling to/from the airport, as a daily ticket by those who wish to explore Athens using the city's public transport.

Line E94 will stop at the Ethniki Amyna Metro station and then you have to take the Metro line 3 (Ethniki Amyna – Syntagma) to reach the city centre. Typical travel time: 30mins.

Line E95 will get you directly to Syntagma Sq., just next to the Greek Parliament on Amalias Ave. Typical travel time: 45min-1h.

The Golden Age Hotel and the Holiday Inn Hotel can be reached by stopping at the Megaro Mousikis Metro station or at the Ilissia bus stop, if you have used bus E95. The Best Western Ilissia Hotel is reached by stopping at the Evagelismos Metro station or bus stop.

Public Transport tickets

Apart from the airport access/24h ticket the following tickets are available:

  • Bus and Trolley bus ticket € 0.45, valid for a single journey (one ride on one bus or trolley bus, regardless of the journey length). Available at most kiosks and metro stations.
  • Metro ticket: €0.70 for a single ride. Available at metro stations.

Reaching NTUA Campus

The NTUA Zografou Campus is quite close to all suggested hotels and can be reached by taxi, by bus or on foot.
- A taxi ride from the hotel to the Campus should cost you €2-€4.
- The campus is served by two bus lines: 222 and 235. The nearest bus stop to the Golden Age Hotel and Holiday Inn Hotel is on Michalakopouloy St (the street in front of the hotel), next to the Holiday Inn hotel (in front of a blue Alpha Bank building, see map) and is called 'Agios Charalabos'. The Ilissia hotel is served by the 'Hilton' stop. The most convenient bus line is 222 as you get off 2 blocks from the campus entrance at the stop called "7th Zografou". In case 222 buses are jammed with students you can also use line 235 which will leave you 200m further away (bus stop "6th Zografou". Consult the attached maps to find your way! Be advised that the naming of the stops (6th or 7th) does NOT mean that it is actually the 6th or 7th stop counting from the stop you got on the bus, but rather the stop name that appears on the sign!
Returning back to the hotel: You can use either 222 or 235 which have common stops on Papagou Ave. There is a bus stop just 2 blocks away from the Golden Age Hotel and the Holiday Inn, on Papadiamantopoulou Str.

- The walk to the campus is about 30 minutes.
